I've been really contemplating changing my career. I feel like hair design/cutting/styling would be such an amazing experience. However, I have absolutely no experience cutting hair whatsoever. How can you learn hair, gain experience, make a portfolio in order to start cosmetology? Are there people who go to schools like Paul Mitchell or Sassoon with no experience and fit in?

Since the objective of the school is to teach you how to cut hair I doubt you would need experience to get in. You gotta start somewhere. I would imagine like anything there are schools that do cater to people with experience that are trying to gain a higher knowledge on specific cutting styles or certain fields of hair styling like working with models or learning crazy hair styles for contests.
