ever since puberty, i've had an affliction. w'ell call it "hair hurt disease". when i reach the point of no return... when the bathroom door is locked and i'm left to my own devices... devices such as razorblades, shears, my husband's bear trimmer, a hand mirror, spray bottle... when restlessness takes over my sensibilities, i turn to cut. i am a cutter. of my own hair. sometimes others' if they ask, but my own only when i am at the breaking point. i am so unhappy with myself and my appearance and my lack of skill at styling my unruly locks that i must cut it off. transformation is the only answer to the question of "how do i fix what is wrong with me?" and so i cut. and feel nauseous. and then cut some more. and then i cry. and hide. and wait until it grows enough that people will forget about that little spot in the back...
at least i really didn't take my double's advice and shave it all off. i came close. but now i will shower and clean up and make it seem as if it never happened. except for all the missing hair, that is.
