OK, now I have to tell the story of me walking down the streets of Denver while waiting for my laundry to dry at Smileys. (which is recounted in some rock and roll rag somewhere where my band Loblolly was interviewed). I'm wearing my typical early 80s girlpunk uniform, the kind of thing I couldn't wear on turf: mass of unbrushed hair piled on top of my head and fastened with a couple of gauzy french hankies, black liquid eyeliner, Revlon Love That Red lipstick, three torn t-shirts in contrasting colors strategically layered, bike shorts underneath an ugly plaid skirt over black tights, about-ready-to-fall-apart faded black Converse Chuck Taylor High Tops ....
And suddenly, I've engaged this pack of frat boys who look at me and say loudly, "Hey, that's one of those punk rock chicks!" One came up to me, got in my face and just said, like this was supposed to get some kind of beatlesque reaction out of me, "Hey! DEVO!"
I know I had two reactions: a) a stunned, WTF feeling and b) uncontrollable laughter. I genuinely can't remember which manifested itself first. revlon hair dryer
