Generally hair dye, except bleach, can't lighten hair more than a few shades. BUT, dye for black hair exists that turns it into a nice medium brown! You can see results of such a dye on black hair here:

L'Oreal sells several dies that brunette-ify black hair. Since you say you want a reddish brown, you'll want to go for dye that says it's "golden tone." The girl in the blog post used one that was an ashy tone, which sort of means more neutral/grayed-out that a rich, golden brown. I'll list the lightening dyes for black hair by L'Oreal that I know of here:
Preference:

This one is for a natural brown look. But beware, the blogger stated that even the one meant to give ashy results faded to a reddened brown, so you may get TOO red results with this.

The shade the blogger used. Meant to give ashy results.

This one is meant to give golden tones. I would be careful though, because black hair tends to get really orange when you use bleach/lightening products, so it may turn out too red, again.
Feria:

Feria by L'Oreal also sells a lightening brown. The blogger reviewed this one as well:

IMPORTANT! If this is your first time dying, these types of dyes are risky because mistakes are obvious. Try to get a friend who is familiar with hair dying to do it. And if you have long hair, buy two boxes.
The ones that say to leave in for "10 minutes/ammonia free" etc are usually DEMI-permanent, which means they eventually fade away. Good for first-time dyers, if you are afraid of making mistakes.
If you want to keep the color, you'll want permanent colors, which usually tell you to keep in for like 20-40 minutes.
