Clone Set Up - Using A "Place Holder" Photo hair cloning

Clone Set Up - Using A "Place Holder"

So I've gotten a few comments asking questions as well as a few e-mails asking for further information about my clone shot from the other day.

Even after trying to explain it, I've still gotten some requests for information so I figured I'd try and show it all in a shot.

After deciding what I was going to do (usually the hardest part LOL) I set the table up. I had to put it on top of a bin because I wanted to be able to use it without bending over it much. Had we been sitting down, I think it might have been harder to match up, but I didn't try so I don't know. Keeping the spot marked I think would have been harder. This way was easier all around for us.

The first shot (the one on the left) was easy to shoot. Kathy stood on camera left and I on camera right. Once we got a feel for our positions I put a small piece of gaffers tape under each of our elbows so that when we switched we would know where they should be positioned. Once the tape was down and we were in position I snapped off a few shots with the remote, which is hidden just behind my visible arm.

Before letting go of Kathy's arm, I again told her that she had to hold her hand in the same position until I got back. I went and changed my shirt and pulled my hair down.

Before letting Kathy move I approached the table with my back to the camera and placed my right arm along the red line seen in the shots and laid my wrist in Kathy's hand. I then took my left hand and placed it on top of Kathy's thumb, thus marking where her hand was.

She switched to the position you see her in the shot on the right. She placed her elbow on the tape and then grasped my arm (still in line with the red line) just under my left hand which was marking the height at which her hand was in the shot on the left.

She held her hand in place while I got into position. I grasped her hand, moving it as little as possible and took a few shots from that position.

I then overlaid the two shots, making sure her hands were hidden by my larger hands and body making sure my hand in the left shot was over hers in the shot on the right. I then cut out my fingers from the right and pasted them back in over top of my hand so that it looked natural. A little dodge and burn and shadow and I was done.

Hopefully that helps clear up any questions people had.hair cloning
