I know what you're thinking, "Why is his right ear so damn red?" Sorry, don't have an answer for you.
So my hair finally came loose, two weeks to the day after my first chemo treatment. Pretty much right on schedule. I plucked off as much as I could so that I wouldn't clog up the shower, or shed all over the house. I think that this is a good haircut for me. If I look at myself in the mirror without my glasses on, it almost looks like I bleached my hair with a leopard spot pattern.
I was actually kindof excited when I tugged on my hair this morning and a chunk of it came out. I was told the complete hair loss was an almost certainty on my chemo regimen (R-CHOP), but I keep having to shave my face, so I felt like my hair wasn't dying. It's an interesting feeling to tug on your hair and have it just pop out.
Chemo hasn't been completely awful. After about a week, the hiccups and nausea pretty much went away. My mouth felt pretty raw for a week or so, like I had eaten a whole bunch of fresh pineapple. Oh, and I've been pretty sensitive to smells, so some food tastes weird to me. For some reason, Coke tastes bad, but root beer is really good. I had a few days where I was feeling almost 100%, but then I got some spells of sudden fatigue. I've also been having quite a bit of muscle pain, but this is all normal. With luck, I'll feel good over the next week before I go in for another day of infusion.

  1. Thanks for linking to this- I had no idea,
and thought it was just a classic Garrick
chronicle of a haircut! Holy shit.

I hope the chemo won't be too sucky,
and that you'll let us know if we can
    help in any way.

  4. That top view totally looks like you bleached your hair, even with my glasses on. As stated above, let us know if there is ANYTHING you need.

  6. Glad to hear the hiccups and nausea have gone - I hope they don't come back before the next round. How many cycles do they have planned?

  7. Thanks all for the kind words and offers of help. I feel ok most days, and have family nearby I can lean on, but if I feel like I need an additional hand, I know who to ask.
I'm looking forward to warmer weather, no hair means a drafty head. I've got three more cycles of treatment to come over the next 7 weeks. Then a month of radiation. My hair won't start growing again till the end of that.

  8. Interesting shots, I thought it was bleached looks good on you, your reaction to loosing hair to chemo was a lot better than my reaction when it happened to me, I clogged the shower a few times before shaving it off and got used to the shaved head pretty quick, though. Keep up the great attitude.

  9. Good luck with your chemo, and I hope you feel better as soon as possible. I have a friend who has been through this twice, and for him one of the best things was to keep doing the things he loved as much as possible, and having people around him he cared about.

  10. It's actually not a bad look! I thought you'd go for a mohawk before plucking. When it come back it might be curly. I can't wait to see those photos.

  12. I echo what has been said here, and I'm happy to help out as much as you need. My father-in-law is about to start a similar process. Hope the chemo doesn't knock you down too much, but I'm happy to run food to you, walk dogs, take pictures mounted to garden tools, etc.... whatever you need.

  13. Hair is overrated. I have plenty of gray ones if you decide you want any.
