You could start a home business. But it depends on how you want your store. Probally 400,000 for a medium and 100,000 for a huge one. and 200,000 for a small.

  1. Ok first of all what is it with these people answering questions by pushing some search and find website? Annoying for the ones wanting real answers. Ok sorry I am off my soap box now.

Well it really depends on where you are planning on locating, the size building you want, the amount of chairs you have and if you plan to build or rent. When I started my own salon I looked into renting a building but none were set up for salons so I would have had the expense of re-plumbing and lighting. Most already had floors without carpet so that wasn't an issue. It made more sense for me to build since I wasn't planning on having a large salon.

Sit down and figure out exactly what you want in your salon. Add in everything you will need for start up from styling and shampoo chairs, mirrors, sinks, mats, products, waiting area, books, shelving and anything else you can think of. Then if you are planning on renting check around and see what building are going for in your area or if building check with local builders for an estimate.
Now once you have all that added up you will need to know permit costs for building or just starting a salon, utility costs for a building the size you want and if you build cost of paving or graveling the lot.
Don't forget you will need to have your tax ID number. Plus you will need money in the bank, most people figure 2 or 3 times the amount they needed to pay the first months bills, just so you have running money while you build up your business.

Hope this helped some. I am sure there is more but hard to think of it all in one go.
