If you read this, beware, I'm a bit ranty about Fantastic Sams. I guess I'm just used to doing my own hair or if I go professional they lean more on the actually good friends side, like Corbin, Ryan or Betsy. But still, this was uncalled for, to me.

I HAD to dye my hair. I was just sick of the scum, sick of the color, it was gross - simple to say, it needed to be rejuvenated. I didn't really want to do a box dye again so I decided, hey I'll go to one of the "entry level" salons and get it done for reasonably cheap. Reasonably cheap was still 0... with the tip my Mom MADE me leave her. I would've left her if I had my way.

I had to sign a sheet basically telling them I wont bitch if I don't like it and such. Ridiculous! Do they make that many mistakes that they want people to be aware of it indirectly? I felt nervous signing it. I just figured hey whatever. What did I know is that the stylist wouldn't understand my hair. So we had to do a test to see of the dye was going to take. I was grumpy because for real, I dye my hair so often, it always takes, unless it is some "special for gray" stuff. There goes fourty minutes. "Oh, it actually took." Uhh, like I told you, we could just began the foils without testing. I'm kind of hair dye experienced, couldn't ya say? And I've never ever once had to have my hair tested to see if the dye would take.

Anyways, then it came to picking the right blonde color. Clearly the color we tested wasn't "good enough". I kept saying "I don't care" as that is 100% my honesty for my answer. I really don't.. I'm used to my friends just going with it and knowing [whatever] it is I'd like it. So I finally settled with a color, with MUCH debate. Every color I selected she began to tell me how that color wouldn't work with this or that, or you should do this. I got so frustrated I just about stormed out then finally we got going. I kept going, you wanted me to decide so I did but you kept running me around trying to have me decide something. This is why I don't care, just do whatever the hell is best for you.

60 foils later, one hair washing, a few snips of hair cut off to clean it up -- I've got this color but it was a ride and a half to get there. I guess I could've went in with a better idea what I wanted but it didn't help whenever I did decide what I liked she'd get snarky and make me pick again. Or telling me it wouldn't work when clearly, me, as a person who actually isn't half clueless about hair dye KNOWS it would work with MY hair. Plus it made me feel like every color I picked she was saying that it would look ugly on me so I should pick something better.hair plus

  1. I think it looks great. Whether it was worth the moments of hassle is up to you.

  2. : Oh I think it is, but I just think it was poor customer service... to keep making me decide then telling me I have to change because it "wont work" or some crap!

  3. I like it!
    But what do I know.

    Nice rant.

  4. : ;] You always like any of my hair, silly. But thanks... I didn't know rants could be nice.

  5. It does look really nice. Just sorry that you had to go through all the "mileage" to get it. That's odd that they had you sign a waiver...I could see if it was a Cosmotology School...but a place of business? Odd.

  6. Ugh. I had a similar experience with a salon lady, not quite as bad. But she ended up having like 5 people help her mix my color, and then it didn't turn out at all how I wanted it in the first place.

  7. They really made you sign a wave saying you won't bitch if you don't like it? Did you leave your red flag at home? ;*)

    BTW, I like the coloring.

  9. I had a foreign exchange student from Italy, and when she told Fantastic Sams she had just gotten here, they used her naivety to take her money. All they did was trim her hair...UNEVENLY. And they charged her 80 bucks; saying that they gave her a "down-do", and "styled cut" and charged her for some deep conditioning treatment they never gave her. I was so mad that I took her back there myself, and got her money back.

I used to go there, but I stopped after that. Now I just make my friends do it.

  13. it looks good to me, but, going to a salon is also about the experience, not just the results. it should be fun, an adventure, pampering. it should not be like that story. ugh.

  14. I like how it turned out, but it sounds like their customer service isn't all that great. If you don't enjoy the haircut/colour then it's probably not worth going back.
