Sketched on a Wacom tablet, this is a logo for a contest held for a comment code icon for the From an Artsy Fartsy Point of View group on Flickr. I thought a stylish lady with opera glasses was about as elegant an image as I could manage in a space 75 pixels by 75 pixels (the size the icon will be when in use). And it seems to me that this lady would have an artsy fartsy point of view through her opera glasses!ladies hairstyles

this is great, it stands out well from the background and i think is perfect as an icon for that groups title. well done with this.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Loraine, I'm so glad you like it. And thanks for the fave too, my friend!
ReplyDeleteVery nicely done...has the feel of a 'New Yorker' magazine illustration....and l agree she would have that kind of point of view :-)

The Queen of the May .....
ReplyDeleteScott, I had that hoity-toity New Yorker in mind when I drew this one, but I wanted to make her a little less snooty! I do love that cartoon of the gentleman with his top hat, his lorgnette, and his attitude. Thanks for the comment.
ReplyDeleteIlli, thank you so much for the nice comment. Deeply appreciated!
ReplyDeleteBev, I'm really glad you like it. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteNick, I had the look of a shell cameo in mind for the design, but I didn't think the coral colored background of an actual cameo would be graphic enough and provide enough contrast considering the tiny size of the end product, and I wanted to give the icon a slight twist.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment, glad you like her!
Pat, thanks so much for stopping by, and thank you for your nice comment, my friend!

ReplyDeleteGreat graphic design. The title brings to mind what my 6yr old son said when he first saw my graphic design portfolio (this. NOT evident in anything I do now, I know),
ReplyDeleteWow! Dad when I grow up I want to be an arstist like you. (you might have to be English to laugh at this). cheers, Mike
I get it, Mike. I've been called an arstist myself on a number of occasions--usually a horse's arstist. I'm laughing myself silly as I type. Thanks for the comment.
ReplyDeletegreat work, well done

ReplyDeletethere really is an artsy fartsy group? how wonderful! now I want to know more about your wacom tablet....I've been dying to get one! you did a wonderful job here....silhouettes are so effective!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your comment and visit, Antoinette. I'm glad you like the icon. Yes, there actually is a group called From an Artsy Fartsy Point of View. It's a wonderful group with many talented artists. You should definitely join; I think you'd enjoy the group.
ReplyDeleteWacom tablets are probably the best pen tablets out there. I have an Intuos3 6" x 8". Pen tablets take a bit of getting used to, but they can be invaluable. I use mine quite often. It's harder to control the line with the pen tablet than with the pen tool, but in turn it gives more freedom and allows a more organic flow.
Thanks Faith! I'll have to definitely check into this....I'm still trying to master the vector thing!
ReplyDeleteAn elegant, refined and ironic work. Well done!
